My Jewish Roots
My Jewish Roots attempts to “connect the dots” between all the Old Testament stories and heroes for kids showing them the “big picture” of their significance to us as born-again believers. Too often, when we tell our children the famous Bible stories of the Old Testament, they do not make the connection between them and Jesus. They have zero understanding of our Jewish roots, biblically or historically. This series of lessons explains those connections from both a biblical and historical perspective.
Well-known Bible teacher Derek Prince, author of “The Destiny of Israel and the Church,” wrote, “You cannot fully understand the Bible unless you know something about Israel. And if you are confused about Israel, you are confused about the Bible.” He continues, “We owe the Jewish people an enormous debt. Without them, the church would have no patriarchs, no prophets, no apostles, no Bible, and no Savior.”
Israel is in the news every day, and we realize there is an entire generation who has absolutely no understanding of why it is important to support the tiny little, obscure nation that seems to cause so much trouble in the world. We now watch soberly as more and more Christians seem to lack knowledge of the very basics of biblical truths. Every Christian needs to understand our Jewish Roots.
Why We Need to Understand Our Jewish Roots
God said, “I will bless those who bless [Abraham], and for those who curse [Abraham] I will curse. And all the families of the world will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3). This is a fundamental explanation from God Himself about the importance of our Jewish roots.
Israel celebrated its 60th birthday as a nation in 2008, and Kids in Ministry International sponsored a three-day kids conference to begin teaching a new generation the deep-rooted connection between Christians and Jews. We taught them why it is so important to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and how our very future of Jesus coming back again hinges on what happens in Israel. We were amazed as some of our most spiritual and committed children began to have “the light come on” of revelation when, prior to the start of the conference, they were questioning why we even needed to study the topic. It happened when we explained our Jewish roots to them.
This lesson then is to give a very quick look at the “big picture” as God sees it through the annals of history. Just how did it all begin? Where do we as Christians, fit into the picture? We hope to “connect the dots” between all the Old Testament stories and heroes and their significance to us today as born-again believers. It is a magnificent story that only God could weave, and understanding it only enhances the truth and validity of God’s Word.

“I just finished preparing lesson two from the new Jesus Our Messiah curriculum. This is such great stuff! I am left amazed AGAIN at the insights. I am sooo excited to teach the kids this! And they are soooo eager to learn it. I am struck again at how there is nothing out there like the curriculum KIMI puts out. You are definitely doing “the Lord’s work”. Thank you!” ~ Tracy, MO
